With the Holiday Season approaching, it shouldn’t be creating stress about giving gifts if your wallet is reaching its bottom dollar. Gifts made at home, in my opinion, show more creativity, and a sense of what the true spirit of the holiday season was meant to be. Candy Cane Sugar Scrub is one of the best gift ideas for Christmas. I have links to most of the supplies you will need, the rest you probably already have in your pantry. My daughter and her friends loved getting this gift.

This project is especially fun for the kids or teens to do as gift ideas for friends, parents of friends, teachers, coaches, and anyone they would love to share the holiday spirit with. This scrub is all-natural, simple to make and the aroma is out of this world. The peppermint provides a delightful pick-me-up and the aroma adds a festive touch.

Easy Candy Cane Sugar Scrub Recipe

This DIY only takes about 5 minutes to create, and the final product rival’s gourmet bath and body shops. It is such wonderful gift for those you care about.

Ingredients Needed:

  • A glass jar with lid
  • 4 cups white sugar
  • Mixing bowl
  • 1/4 cup crushed candy canes
  • 1+ cup olive oil
  • 20-30 drops peppermint essential oil

Makes four cups of candy cane sugar scrub.

Directions:

Peppermint Oil
  • Measure and pour the sugar into a mixing bowl. Give things a stir to break up any clumps. The sugar works as a gentle exfoliant that leaves your feet and hands wonderfully smooth.
  • Now add the olive oil to the sugar, and stir. The mixture should resemble wet sand that isn’t too saturated. Olive oil offers the best results, but sunflower or almond oil are good options too. If one cup of oil doesn’t seem to be enough, then add another quarter cup.
  • To finish the mixture, add the peppermint oil, which boosts the refreshing peppermint scent of the scrub. And peppermint is a natural anti-inflammatory, which soothes sore muscles.
You want the candies to become superfine
  • Place a handful of your crushed candy canes in a plastic bag, and make the pieces even smaller with the help of a rolling pin. You can also pulverize the candies in a clean coffee grinder or blender. You want the candies to become superfine, similar in size to the white sugar.
  • I separate about a quarter of the sugar mix and add the crushed candy canes for alternating layers.
  • To create the pretty scrub, place a big spoonful of the sugar-and-oil mixture at the base of the glass container, and then sprinkle with a layer of the crushed candy cane mix. Continue layering until you reach the top of the container. Add a cute ribbon and a few candy canes, and your peppermint scrub is ready for gifting!

To use the scrub, scoop some out into your hands while in the shower. Allow a little warm water to run into your hands to activate it and scrub on skin that needs extra exfoliation. It also makes a great gardener’s or mechanic’s hand scrub to help get deep dirt off of your hands. Try my other seasonal recipe for Whipped Gingerbread Body Butter, also great for gifting.
